Is Game Testing Really Worth The Effort?
If you’ve read the whole course, you would have realized that it does take a fair amount of work to become a game tester.
(If you haven’t read the whole course yet, I urge you to get around to it as soon as possible. You aren’t going to become a game tester by doing nothing.)
But back to the topic of this email: you’ll probably realize too that game testing (like all jobs) is not perfect, and you will have to work pretty hard even to get a testing job in the first place
So is it all worth it?
It’s a question that only you yourself can answer, but here’s a few things to consider:
If you are interested in getting a career involving computing, why not aim to pursue that career in the video game industry? Wouldn’t you rather be developing/programming/testing etc. the latest video game, rather than working on a boring new word processor?
Also, does anything worthwhile ever come without a cost? Don’t you get more satisfaction from passing an incredibly hard game as opposed to using cheats to pass an easy game?
So is it worth it?
Well I have a great book which I came across a while ago and recommend you read. It’s completely FREE, and addresses these issues further.
You can get a free copy by typing “Think and grow rich free” into google.
It does focus mainly on business and making money, but the exact same concepts can be applied to getting into the video game industry. If anything, at least read the first chapter.
Ultimately though, it is up to you yourself to decide whether it is worth the effort to pursue a career in the video game industry.
But if you ask me, if you are working towards something you truly dream of, how can it not be worth the effort?
